FAQs
I am a beginner, will I be able to do the classes online and livestreamed?
each class is open and welcoming to students of all levels of experience.
it may reassure you to know that we have all been a beginner of yoga before.
at first, it may feel a little clunky or awkward as you bring your body and mind into places it hasn’t typically explored. with patience and practice you will learn a new way to be and breathe. allow yourself to be fully present to this unfolding, with no expectation and total openness.
please reach out to me if you would like further support about beginning the practice of yoga.
where can I learn more about the philosophy and history of yoga?
we are blessed to live in an age where information is abundant, but at times this can often lead to washed-out or watered-down sources of information. especially from a tradition such as yoga that extends back to nearly 5,000 years of lineage, history and wisdom.
I was lucky enough to have teachers who are dedicated to continued learning and deep understanding of the practice across the realms of philosophy, Ayurveda, meditation and the way modern humans interact with it all.
check out my journal section to dive deeper into topics like sanskrit, sutras and suggested practices to continue your own personal relationship to what lights you up in yoga.
how often should* I be doing yoga?
“doing” yoga is called “practice” for a reason. it is not only a physical practice, but a mindset, a commitment and skill to be developed with time - and no real set destination.
when first starting out I encourage you to commit to at least 2 practices a week. this allows your body to begin picking up on new patterns and mind to slip into conscious awareness each time.
for more seasoned yogis here, make the practice of yoga a part of daily your life by adding variety to how you connect with yoga (i.e. enjoying an asana-based practices some days, 10 minutes of meditation other days, or conscious breathing added to the mix of your weekly schedule).
*p.s. there are no “should’s” in yoga here - just a discovering of your why.
hot tip: when starting out (or feeling stuck!!) in your practice, ask yourself “why” you’re practicing today instead of telling yourself you “should” practice today. it’s a game changer x
I am a beginner, where should I start?
in the online studio library you will find different types of classes, categorised by the overall rhythm and pace of the practice.
when starting out, look to the refine, steady, and restore classes.
these are wonderful options that will bring foundational alignment and strength, stability and mobility and a curious attention throughout the early stages of your practice.
(and remember to have fun, especially when finding your feet in the flow. literally!)
I want to progress in my existing yoga practice. can I do that here?
absolutely! one of the most fulfilling things for me as a teacher and sharer of the practice of yoga is to be witness of the moments when a student finally pops up into crow pose, or is able to tap into a strength they’ve been working towards with intention.
similarly, when a student gives feedback that they finally get a certain philosophy idea and connect to it in their own life - that’s the real juice of this practice. the sweetest squeeze.
the online studio has a ‘learn’ category that breaks down asana and transitions from simple to complex so you can be confident in taking yourself somewhere without losing the ease of your breath and quality of being.
I have something I am currently taking care of in my (body, mind) but I want to keep up my practice. can I still do yoga?
I am by no means a medical professional, nor do I give any medical advice to my students as that is not what I am qualified or trained to do.
however if you are: dealing with a physical injury (acute or chronic), pregnant, having emotional or mental health challenges, working on specific health/wellbeing outcomes know that this practice can be extremely supportive during these times.
the physiological and nervous system relationship of yoga to the bodymind is innately healing and regulating.
